Neil Cameron on McCoy surfboards
Having surfed for over 45 years, I have seen and ridden a lot of designs, some good and some just plain terrible as a lot of older guys would agree. I have been riding McCoy’s (nuggets mostly) for about 12 or so years and since being on them I have had memorable barrels in the Mentawai’s and at home in Byron Bay. I am not a big wave surfer so 6-8ft is my limit for shallow reef breaks, that is enough to get me full stoked.
After winning an Australian title on a 5’10”, 2 or 3 years ago, I have since gone up to ridding 6”1s. The Nugget design allows me to surf in waves from 2-3ft up to 6-8ft and still feel confident when you are taking late drops and pulling in. I always have faith and feel confident on my 6’1” Nuggets. The Nugget has been for me, a love affair with a surfboard, having won numerous State and Australian Titles as well as competing in The World Master Titles in Panama, which our Australian Team went on to win. Last year at the age of 60 i won another Australian Title, once again putting it down to the boards i am riding, being loose, forgiving, fast, and plenty of paddle power.
Currently riding a 6’1”Nugget which I just can’t get off because I am just so stoked every day I surf. Waking up paddling out at day break on my McCoy. Stoked!
Thanks again Geoff.
